Sustainability Statement for Courtyard Bothy

Here at the Courtyard Bothy, we are 100% committed to promoting sustainability and minimising our environmental impact while providing a memorable and enjoyable experience for guests. We recognise the importance of protecting the beautiful landscape and community that makes Grantown on Spey and the Cairngorms National Park a destination of choice for visitors.

Environmental Conservation

Reducing carbon footprint
Down arrow

We actively work to reduce our carbon footprint by implementing energy-saving measures such as solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances and a smart heating system.

Waste reduction
Down arrow

We encourage waste reduction and recycling by providing clearly labeled bins in the Bothy. On departure rubbish is placed in the black bin outside the Bothy gate and we sort this into the correct bins before they are collected by the Council.

Wildlife and natural environment
Down arrow

We support local wildlife conservation efforts by maintaining natural habitats on our premises where we can, planting flowers for insects and promoting responsible enjoyment of our natural environment to guests.

Resource Management

Water consumption
Down arrow

We strive to minimise water usage through efficient fixtures and encourage guests to use water responsibly during their stay.

Natural light
Down arrow

The Courtyard Bothy is south facing with double french doors - it is designed to maximise natural light and ventilation, reducing the need for artificial light and heat during the day.

Electricity
Down arrow

Our array of 20 solar PV panels generates electricity during the day. Our energy provider's tariff encourages overnight grid usage when there is less demand on the grid - during these hours we store electricity in our battery to use in the evenings when the solar PV is not generating its own power. The air source heat pump is timed to maximise power when electricity is at its greenest.

Sourcing local
Down arrow

We source our amenities and supplies from local suppliers wherever possible to support the local economy and reduce transportation emissions.

Community Engagement

Engaging with our community
Down arrow

We actively engage with our local community to support small businesses, artisans, and cultural initiatives, promoting a sustainable tourism model that benefits the local economy. Karen chairs the Grantown Business Association, is Treasurer of the local bowls club and the community development company.

We have an EV destination charger in the Bothy's parking space to give guests with an electric vehicle the confidence to bring their car on holiday with them.

Guest Education

Information giving
Down arrow

We provide our guests with information about sustainable practices they can adopt during their stay - we have lots of books, folders and information on local activities, walks, shops and restaurants to enjoy. We live on site and love to share what we love, so we are always available to give further advice.

Responsible enjoyment

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

There’s always more to be done to look after our little piece of the planet!

We are committed to continually assessing and improving our sustainability practices through regular feedback from guests, suppliers and stakeholders, and staying informed about the latest developments in eco-friendly technologies and practices.

We welcome suggestions and ideas from guests on how we can further enhance our sustainability efforts and strive to incorporate these into what we offer.
